in my residency era
I'm in Guatemala!
Right now, I'm sitting in an expansive villa, lavishing in the air-conditioning because this seaside coastal town is so ridiculously HOT that I can't help but want to stay inside. Weirdly, I've been inspired to write more non fiction here in Guate as if my body already knows I'm putting 110% of my efforts into my other genre of choice. I've been in the country for a little over a week, and I'm five days into the Studio Luce writer's residency that I was chosen for! I'm the only American here--the other two writers/artists are Guatemalan--but it feels nice sharing a house with them.
Writer Residency Era
A writer's residency is essentially a space for writers to not have to worry about the rest of their daily lives and escape for some creative time (writing a shit ton) or recuperation. This year, I was accepted to two different residencies: Studio Luce, where I'm at right now in El Paredon, Guatemala; and POWERhouse residency, which is closer to me in NYC. My spouse will be joining me for the week (potentially?) and we'll be spending some time together again (I won't have to worry about anything else!)
